For the first time in a long time, he felt like an idiot although he did not allow himself to be loomed by that kind of emotion. Aislinn is very sensitive and he could not afford her hurt.

“Oh… I guess you’re right. Sorry…”, he said gulping and he was about to pull away when she gave him a VERY unexpected kiss. She was obviously wary of guys liking her and he knew just how she would avoid any threat of getting trapped on land by any means possible. His mouth was, for a second, a tad open at her gesture and he had to take another gulp before he could redeem himself.

God… That was very close. He didn’t want Aislinn to think he was one of those greedy animals that want selkies enslaved because of a lost skin.

Giving his hardest, he focused his attention to the topic they were talking about that she revived. The whales. Yes, the whales. They’re…interesting…

He smiled at her although his heart was speeding like a car on a race. “Thanks, I’d be glad to be there. I have no problem in making friends with the plants but with animals, there are only few that can spare me a look.” Fleance laughed a tad calming his heart when he had an idea.

“Mind if I smoke? I promise not to blow on your eyes”, he jokingly said as he pulled a pack out of the pocket of his pants.

Aislinn tilted her head when he spoke of smoking, she knew of the human facination with this deadly pass time. For a human it was poison slow but eventually deadly for a shifter it seemed like a strange habit.

" I dinna mind if ye smoke as ye say though I dinna see the facination in such. Is there some taste tae it that makes it so attractive then for the smell it gives off is very unlike the coffee I have tried?"

She remembers her one attempt at the humans bitter drink it had smelled so good but it tasted horrible. Such a bitter thing theat Coffee she even tried the adding of the white crystals called sugar and the white liquid cream. Nothing had helped perhaps the smoking is just the opposite a bitter smell with a lovely taste.

" Tis shame they dinna wish tae play with ye for I find ye a winsome companion and ye are vera nice tae be arround. Why do ye nae keep yer panther skin with ye as I do my skin do ye nae fear the skin steelers though I would guess ye are already bound tae the land. Women are just as quick tae steal a male selkies skin though they be quicker at giving it back in the end. "

Aislinn was helping him relieve his anxiety in the most natural of ways.

Taking a puff on his lighted cigarette, he blew smoke before turning to her curiosity on the vice. “Inside this,” he said showing her the stick between his fingers. “…are dried leaves. They do taste bitter just like coffee and although some are flavored mint like this one, the bitter taste does not leave.”

Fleance smiled at her as another cloud of smoke escaped his lips. “Actually, aside from beer, coffee is best with cigarettes. Most of the humans I came in contact with use the duo as breakfast. You see, two bitter things combined together come to the liking of others.” He thoughtfully spoke contemplating how he should explain the habit to her.

“I think, to us smokers or coffee drinkers or both, there is something comforting about the bitter taste of the two. There’s familiarity on the taste that irk one’s tongue, as if reminding that life wouldn’t be that fun if there are only sweet things. And when I breath smoke from the cigarette I feel more alive.” He gave her a reassuring look. “And unlike humans, this won’t cause me harm since I’m one of the plants.”

There formed few lines on his head as she asked him about his panther skin. “Actually,” he said pushing some of the dreads to his back. “You are the first creature I met that takes off her skin. My skin is inside me and whenever I feel the urge to shift, it comes at my will. And even if it was detachable like yours, I think I would not be threatened that anybody wants to steal it. That only means someone wishes me to be with them forever. Isn’t that something close to love?”

Aislinn scrunched up her nose a little at the smell, she didn't care for it either but he seemed to enjoy it.

" I dinna think I like bitter things much though I have tried the chocolate my human cousins gave me some tis mana that. "

She smiles and looks out over the ocean the moon is slowly sinking in the sky she can feel the tide change coming on. She stands up and walks into the surf feeling the pull in her blood she cannot go in her skin but it sets right there in the sand. The fact that she leaves it so close to him is a measure of her trust, but soon she turns and smiles holding out her hand to him.

" Would ye care tae come walk in the surf with me, while I canna put on my skin and swim away I have nae forsaken the sea entirely. The tide is turning soon ye can feel it's pull as the moon sinks in the sky. "

The light of that same moon shines around her as if it too holds her in it's arms. She stands as the surf laps at her legs not caring that the cold water makes her bare feet cold ot her jeans wet.

“Oh you like chocolates too?” His eyes spread fascination in the sky that he was staring at. For some weird reasons, although the blanket above them was clearly pitch-black, he thought he could still see the blue shade. Brightly.

“They have a lot of flavors, chocolates… I love the one with almonds, sweet and crunchy on my tongue”, he said as if someone who could really taste the food in his mouth as he spoke.

Slowly, he lowered his gaze from the heavens to her stature. Even in the dark, she looked so beautiful he thought she was the night goddess. Seeing her empty handed, he took a glance of her skin’s container that he could feel, was more precious than anything else.

Fleance took his ocean-colored eyes from the bag to the hand she kindly offered him. “I’d be more than glad,” he said returning her smile and stood; placing Gitara beside her skin.

He enclosed her hand on his; feeling the familiar softness that she touched him with back in the ball. One foot started to leave the sand briefly until it fell on another spot. And then the other followed.

“It’s been a long time since I last did this. Walking in the night beach with someone…” The wind was cascading pass his cheeks and the height of his nose. The only thing disturbing the stillness of the night aside from the waves were their voices; both sounding quite soft and low.

“Do you often spend the night here with your friend Angel. Just walking around like this..?”

Asilinn enjoyed walking along the beach with the tides lapping softly at her legs. Doing this made the need to put on her skin and return bearable, walking with him now made it pleasant. She sighed when he asked after Angel, the vampire had disappeared after the ball he was just gone the house empty the safe with ehr skin left open for her to reteieve it.

" Angel is gone something at the ball must have upset him for he was gone when I returned back. I dinna know the reason I come here now every evening tae watch the sea and wait for the sun tae rise in the sky. I dinna need much sleep it seems but then perhaps tis that I canna sleep without the sea. Tis passing strange that but tis a nice place tae spend the dark hours tis quiet and calming. "

The sand slipping beneath her feet felt cool and silky, she enjoyed the light breeze coming in off the water. Lifting her head she let it blow through her long hair taking in the scent of brine and life. They say all life began in the sea and her people agree it is the great mother.

" tis nice tae have yer company here with me I find ye have a very restful and addicting atmosphere. Ye are the only man I have met who dinna seem obsessed with my appearance nor with the thing I always carry. Tis wonderful to be free of the greed and posessiveness, I am glad twas ye that came here. "

“It is indeed”, he said smiling calmly in agreement to what she said about the therapeutic nature of watching the sea. “One needed not to be a selkie like you to know how much peace it brings the soul. The place doesn’t even have to be the sea. Long as a body of water is present and you can see the ripples created by the wind or the moon’s reflection swaying, you can’t help but feel relaxed.” He took a whiff of the salty water kissing their toes as they walked the sandy shore. “But then again it is only the sea that gives off this scent that brings you home”, he said pressing her hand comfortingly.

To say that he was surprised by her next sentence was an understatement. “Many have said I am restful but addicting?”, he chuckled ever so lightly. “You sure are the first.” A wave of blush painted his cheeks that accented the fine lines of his face. “To deny the fact that you’re one of the most attractive person I met would be lying”, he honestly said; glancing at her for a brief moment before smiling at himself as he stared at the darkened surroundings. “And I’m not very good at it.”

The stars sparkled as if lighting their way around that little paradise. Fleance stopped and got on his knees, picking a pale-pink tiny shell. He handed her the sea resident and spoke while looking at the little wonder. “Beautiful isn’t it? But if those that came before us felt like keeping it to themselves, we could never find it here no matter how the sun or the stars are brightly shinning.”

He gently cupped her hand holding the shell with his. “Had any man been too much obsessed with you before our fated meeting, I may be walking this beach…lonesome.” Fleance gave her the sincerest of look. “I really like you Aislinn.” A cold wind blew their hairs. “But that does not equate to imprisoning you wherever you don’t want to be. Nor forcing yourself on anyone that can never make you whole.”

Aislinn smiled at his words he was really a nice man and she could tell by his emotions that he was not lying. Lies carried a certain feling of need behind them it was very hard to lie when someone could feel your emotions. He wanted ehr to believe him and to feel at easy she could sense that but there was not the panic and need that was felt when a lie was told.

" I dinna worry about ye and my skin, I know ye willna try tae take my skin. Tis hard tae lie tae someone who can sense yer emotions as I can. "

She took the shell delicately from his hand and turned it about enjoying the way the moonlight caught the lunimescent spects of sand making them glitter.

" Tis a beautiful thing yes and though some will keep it others return it tae the sea from where it was born. Everything came from the sea and so it will return tae the sea be it as dust on the wind or in it's whole state. "

She turns her small palm tipping the shell back into the waves and looking up at him with a smile.

" I understand about how I look and how it effects people but I also know that ye see me as well as the human skin I wear. THis makes ye special tae me and tae be honest I understand yer attraction tae me I feel it aswell for ye."

She blushes and glances ot to the sea not sure if saying such was thought to be too forward or if it was alright.

The serene voice coming from the beautifully arched lips of Aislinn touched his ears as the waves would kiss the sandy shore. She was not singing but the melody reaching Fleance was cradling his mind in an abyss more peaceful than he is.

“You’re right. It would be impossible for me to hide anything from you since you can see through me. But even if I could, I would probably stray from that path. After all, it is easier to say the truth than think of a lie to mask the real deal. None of us will take pleasure from that.”

Thrice, he blinked unbelievingly. She just said he was not alone in the currents of attraction!

You like me? Really? Really, really?

In a slow manner, his eyes turned to the sand; his lips still parted a tad, closed before beautifully arching into an almost shy smile. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t know what to say. Or if there was even a word to come out of his delightedly shocked state.

He turned to face the sea; seeing the moon shinning its brightest; cascading against the two figures gazing at the blackness of the water. Fleance was not trying to show it off but his eyes said he was over the moon; singing and dancing as he wanted the world to know.

“Thank you.” His tone defined sincerity and was very tranquil. “For liking me back. Does that mean we can walk here another time and you know talk and wait for sunrise again?” He turned to face her; smiling ever so lightly.

Aislinn could feel the elation and incredulity coming off of him, she enjoyed the emotions both for their relation to their conversation and because they were pleasant. She watched him look down to compose himself a moment and smiled slightly at his charm. When he looked up with a light in his eyes she could almost hear the music of his soul.

" I would vera much enjoy tae sit with ye again, and tae walk along the sand. Tis good tae talk with ye and I do so enjoy yer company while waiting on the suns morning waking. I didna realise how lonely it was afore but now I know tis a lonely thing tae watch it alone without good company such as yerself. "

She blushed a pale pink as she spoke being forward was not easy for her but since he was honest with her she should be honest with him. The waves were more gentle in their movements now gently kissing the sand rather than slapping the earth.

" I am nae used tae things on the land yet but ye make is seem easier tae cope some how. I dinna know what it is about ye that tis so calming or uplifting but i do like it vera much. "

She still holds his hand enjoying the feeling of contact as they walk, for her kind touch is a comfort.

It gave him a pleasant wonder that she could speak so lightly on how she truly feels about him. Her words come out so naturally, free of junk or bluffing compliments. In his journey around the world, he has met many a woman that boldly expressed admiration towards him; doing all the flirty moves that had he been a maniac or some other opportunist, he’d have left them with big holes.

But Aislinn…her purity makes Fleance like her more.

An enchanted smile surfaced; adorning his face with beautiful lines beside the tips of his lips. Crossing their fingers together, he continued leaving marks on the sand with the most dazzling creature in his eyes. “From now on…”, he said like saying the sun will shine tomorrow. “I’ll make sure there will be two sets of footsteps on the shore where you walked. So that you may never feel alone again. Or at least while you are still here…on land.”

Fleance was not afraid the time for her to be back at sea would come; maybe even in the most unexpected moment. And maybe she would not remember any of the things they did or what they talked about one starry night. But he could always look for the selkie with his squid skin right? If she can’t bear staying on land forever, he will bridge the distance between them.

Suddenly, a white light drew in the sky. It was so swift he almost missed it. Almost.

He glanced at the direction of the crashing star, leading Aislinn’s eyes to behold the spectacle. “Do you believe in the power of wishes?” There was a mystifying spark in his ocean-blue eyes.
