The sounds, indicative of Jasper having succeeded at getting Renesmee out of the house, meant Carlisle's task at hand could cease. He tossed the rug open the flames, snuffing them and scaring them back for a few, brief precious seconds.

And then he was gone.

He couldn't hear anyone else stirring in the house, but with the roar of the flames and the sound of the house disintegrating piece by piece, he couldn't be sure. He leapt down the stairs and landed on fingers and toes at the bottom--the entire upstairs he had deemed empty, or at least lacking life--and began a rapid search of the bottom.

No voices. No shouts, no pleas for help, no bodies, alive or not, in any of the rooms. The fire kept springing at his clothes, threatening to catch, to devour him, but he beat it back with sleeves over his hands, always careful never to let his skin come in contact with the wild energy that was the fire.

Maybe he would have time...

The old vampire took the steps three at a time back up to his study. The fire leapt at him, but he rolled through the doorway and bolted across the room, towards the storage closet he knew contained the tanks. He couldn't promise the house wouldn't be destroyed--but he could do his very best to prevent the tanks from exploding.

There they were. They were hot to the touch, but they were intact. He didn't even think about what the hot metal might be doing to his hands, vampire or not--instead, he scooped the two canisters he had up into his arms, turned, and flew for the already broken window. He leapt out into space...

He could see Autumn hanging there off to his left, legs swinging in the air, and Mike Dupont upon the roof... Esme and Jasper stood with outstretched hands and calling expressions, below. Renesmee lay, half-curled on the grass, but alive... Kaylee heading back towards the house, with the intent of helping as well.

Carlisle landed with a thud. He rolled, cradling the canisters to him, and dumped them into the mud. He was covered in soot, but fine, and his primary concern was Renesmee and Autumn. He was at Renesmee's side in a moment, running his hands lightly over her injuries. She seemed fine, well enough for him to know she would survive without immediate attention.

"I'll be back to take care of you, Renesmee." Carlisle took the back of her head in his hand and kissed her forehead, then rose, heading back towards the house and where the last of the family--whom was home--was dangling. They must get Autumn down. Then they could retreat, and start licking their wounds, so to speak.

Autumn wasn't afraid. Maybe she didn't know enough to be afraid, or maybe she had just reached the point where all the fear had just been sucked out of her. She'd been scared so many times in her very short life that whatever font it welled up from had run dry. It was a good a theory as any. But so was the idea that she didn't know enough to be afraid. Fire was bright and sparkly, after all, and it was hot. But she she'd been burnt before. Dozens of times. Cold burns, heat burns, chemical burns. She didn't know that a house could collapse, or why the vampires were more panicked than she was. All she did was lever herself back onto the roof properly.

And then Mike was there. She didn't know Mike, didn't know his name, barely knew his scent - not that she could smell anything properly right now anyway. But she didn't know him. And so, Mike was in her territory, and he was a threat. She hissed at him, and backed away quickly - but she was on a roof, and the light and smoke made it difficult to see the edge. Instead of jumping where she was supposed too, she fell several feet away, head and spine first, towards the ground.

Jasper sighed as Mike rambled through, jumping onto the roof. Jasper knew Autumn, and knew that she would not take kindly to the intrusion of a stranger. His assumptions were right, as he heard her hiss at him over the flames. He stepped forward. "Autumn, it's alright. He's a friend. Be carefu-" Too late. She backed away too far, flailing right off the edge of the roof.

"Autumn!" He stepped forward again and made sure he was right underneath her. He caught her easily, his knees bending slightly from the velocity of her fal. "I got ya. Mike! Get down here, now. We have to get out of here." He yelled, knowing Mike wouldn't hear him over the flames.

He turned without waiting-each man for his own-and looked at Esme, indicating for her to follow. Carlisle reappeared, and Jasper nodded as he acknowledged his presence.

They were surrounded, flames everywhere. He turned around and faced the house-their only way back out. As he looked to the side to look at Esme, he caught a closing path that was nearly hidden. "There's a path. This way." With Autumn still in his arms, he ran, barely making it through the path before it closed. He continued running, hoping the others were behind him. Once he knew they were far enough away he set Autumn down.

"Are you okay?"

"There is a man on our roof!" Autumn growled in her rough, broken voice, then she turned back towards the house and hissed at Mike again. Honestly, she looked incredibly tempted to run back over there and fight him right back out of her territory. It just flat out bothered her that not everyone was willing to as rigorously defend well defined territorial lines as she was. Of course, she was fully aware that she was different from the majority of people. Broken in almost definable ways. She was never going to be normal. That said, just because she wasn't normal didn't mean that she didn't care for what family she had adopted, and so she had to care about their territory - which Mike was horning in on, in spite of there being an emergency. Or because of it, taking advantage of the situation to try and gain some territory of theirs. She snarled again in Mike's direction. "He needs to leave! He's a stranger!" And then she paused long enough to answer Jasper's query. "My eyes are itchy, so I put on goggles. And my throat hurts. It was smoking and makes my chest all itchy on the inside." She frowned. Well. Mike could keep the smoke. She decided that was a perfectly good compromise, and started to calm down some. Jasper helped, of course.

Esme saw Mike appear on the roof, although she didn’t know where, exactly, he had come from. She knew how Autumn reacted to strangers, and she looked at Jasper gratefully as he calmed Autumn down. She watched as Jasper caught Autumn effortlessly, knowing that the time for their safe escape was drawing to a close. The fire was roaring out of control, drawing closer with each second. It was terrifying, for Esme didn’t know who was home and who wasn’t. All she could smell was the acrid smoke from the fire. “Get off the roof, Mike!” she called loudly, worried about the shifter’s safety.

Nodding as Jasper turned, running through the narrow path , Esme followed, her supernatural speed getting her past the flames easily. She let out a sigh, relieved to see her husband and granddaughter were safe.

She turned as she saw Carlisle and Kaylee both heading back towards the house, running after them. She couldn’t live with herself if there was still someone in the house and she didn’t help. “Carlisle! Kaylee!” she called loudly, trying to pitch her voice loud enough to be heard above the deafening roar of the flames. “I’m right behind you!

Renesmee was physically exhausted, something that came with the unfortunate curse of being partly human. It was odd, the hybrid truly believed that she had all of the cons of both worlds, rather than any pros. It would certainly have been nice to be indestructible during the fall, or to possess the ability to be able to cease her breathing while inside. That would have been sweet, too...

From what Renesmee could hear over the flames, everyone seemed to be alright. Jasper and Esme were assisting Autumn out of the house as best as they could while Jasper and Carlisle continued checking for others and assisting when and however possible. Mike Dupont had even showed up, which was odd to the hybrid. If he was able to be alerted about a fire at their home, why wasn't Jacob? That left her feeling a but unsettled...

Her eyes glanced up at her grandfather as his hands moved across her injuries, nodding to show that she understood. She wasn't very worried about herself, she had sustained broken bones in the past and knew that they weren't life threatening. She was more worried about Autumn, who could easily get much more injured than Renesmee had.
