Dating hadn't ever been something that had come natural to Ana in the sense that it had never come to her period. There had been guys that she had crushed on, of course. Childhood crushes and teenage crushes that she had never done much of anything with, simply because she had always been far too self-conscious and far too timid to bother putting herself out there.

Since starting University, Ana had absolutely no interest in men whatsoever. That wasn't to say that she was now batting for the other team - she wasn't - she just had so little time to spend focusing on her romantic life (or lack thereof) since putting her education and her future career first.

Her roommate (and best friend) Kate was the polar opposite, of course. Kate's grades matched Ana's and her love life was always thriving. Sure, Kate hadn't exactly met "the one" just yet, but she had met (and slept with) many guys that were "almost" the one, if that at all counted.

It was peculiar for someone to be as persistent as Christian Grey was when it came to Ana. She had never really been pursued before... She knew that her co-worker Paul and her best male friend José seemed to be interested in being more than just her friend when it suited them both individually, but neither had ever acted on their feelings and Ana had never so much as addressed her suspicions.

Needless to say, Ana couldn't help but feel a snaking suspicion deep in her gut that screamed this was all a joke. Why the hell would anyone pursue her as relentlessly as Christian Grey was unless it was some horribly cruel prank about to explode in front of her face for everyone to laugh at?

Maybe he was mistaking her for someone else. Maybe he thought she had money when she didn't, or that she had persuasion in the city... which she didn't. She was nobody that came from nowhere important. An invisible shadow that had always been content going unnoticed and unwanted.

Her lip bordered on raw from the number of times she had caught herself chewing nervously on it; it stung ever so slightly as her teeth clamped down onto it the moment she walked inside the coffee shop only to see Christian Grey sitting there, as he said he would be. He had been pressing her to accept his invitation for coffee for days; they had met online and had chatted online a few times that week. Conversations weren't horrible... but Ana had nothing to offer him and there wasn't a single thing she had that she felt herself desperate for, at least as far as she knew.

Hesitating, Ana glanced to the baristas who seemed to be busy with orders before her eyes scanned back over the small coffee shop. There weren't too many people; no eyes were on her - something that was more than normal - which had her eager to turn back to the door, something she did before stopping herself. Walking out was too easy... and too rude, something Ana didn't consider herself to be, so with a deep breath, she turned back towards the man that was allegedly waiting for her, closing the distance between herself and his table.

"Hi..." Biting down on her bottom lip gently before offering the faintest of nervous smiles, Ana could feel her stomach sinking at the realization that she was actually going through with this...

That girl who's next to me,
she don't know her worth in this town
For not the first time that morning, Christian Grey wondered ‘ What the fuck are you doing?’

He didn’t do things like this, sit around in coffee shops waiting for a girl to come so he could talk to her. In fact, he had never had to ever convince anyone to even speak to him…not like he had to with Anastasia. And trust him when he said it took a lot of convincing , just for this one meeting.

He didn’t really understand her hesitation with him either. The business-man didn’t think that he really gave off the wrong vibes, at least he didn’t think that his private life vibes had been showing. Christian thought that he had been cautious and careful to not let her see truly see him. The him that he kept hidden behind a red locked door.

Of course even that wasn’t the real him…that was buried so deep down inside that he didn’t even recognize it anymore, except when it made him wake up screaming in the night. And it would stay that way.

Really, Christian knew that he shouldn’t even be talking to Anastasia. She was this light, pure and innocent , and all he lived in the dark, corrupting everything he touched. Wasn’t that part of what made him such a good business man? Being able to be cold and un caring and dark if it meant getting what he wanted in the end goal.

And yet try as he might, he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to talk to her more. To find out her thoughts…about her past…her future. He wanted to learn everything about the young woman, because she was fascinating to him. And even more because unlike everyone else…she wasn’t actively trying to get close to him.

The opposite, actually.

Which both interested him and frustrated him all at once.

Still he should of known better than to fight as hard as he did to get this meeting with her that morning. He should of just walked away the first time she tried to play him off. It would be better for them both if he never got a taste of her, and if she never knew exactly what sort of monster he was.

But like an addict, he found himself fighting as hard as he could to get the chance to see her in person…to hear if her voice was as lovely as he imagined. A dangerous line he was toying with but one he was still stumbling across.

His gaze was staring out the window to his left, watching the street activity, fingers lightly moving on the invisible piano his mind imagined on the piano. A habit he hadn’t broken from his younger days of learning to impress his new mother. Only mother.

There was no missing though how his focus instantly shifted from the busy street to the woman who entered the café.

To some she might be plain. Brunette hair, pale skin and brown eyes. She could almost be invisible to some of the customer’s in place. And yet to Christian there was no hiding the true beauty that she held. The Hair that held subtle shades of red in it, hiding among the brown so you only saw it flash in the right light. The way the peaches and cream skin tone made her look flushed, he was positive that her blush would make it all but impossible to keep his hands to himself if he wasn’t on guard. And those eyes…. Even from a far he could see the deep chocolate color searing into his dreams he was sure to have. He knew already, right then.

He knew that he wanted Anastasia for his own.

A small smile slowly spread across his face, his eyes fighting to keep from staring at her lips as she bit them. It was almost like she was teasing him with how much he wanted to be the one biting it. And then her soft word had that smile turning into a full grin…one no one would believe ever graced his face if she told them. He waved a hand politely to the seat in front of him “Why hello, Anastasia…”

Anastasia knew exactly what she wanted to say when she had begrudgingly agreed to meet with Christian at the coffee shop that evening, and that was that he needed to stop hounding her to spend time with him because after today, it wasn't going to happen again. She wasn't the type of girl that met handsome billionaires for coffee, and he wasn't the type that needed to lower his standards to reflect someone like her.

She had had to rehearse her lines a couple of times in front of the mirror, of course. Ana wasn't exactly the most confident creature, after all. Sometimes she had to practice whatever it was that she was wanting to say, if only to appear as though she was as put-together and confident as she was coming off as.

The brunette was met with a stumble as she caught herself on the chair that Christian gestured towards in an effort to have her sit with him. A seat that she gladly accepted the moment she caught her balance, if only to get her clumsy self off her feet before she ended up hurting someone or herself.

She was certain that the blush on her face was more than evident; Ana was already finding herself praying that the ground would open up and swallow her whole if only to save her from her own embarrassment.

"It's just Ana..." Her words were quite and uncertain even though the nickname was one she had always preferred. Only her parents called her Anastasia, and that was usually only when they were upset with her or when they were trying to console her. Still, there was something about Christian that had her realizing it was going to be a pointless battle; he didn't seem like the type to enjoy being corrected.

"It's just Ana and it's just one date..." Brown eyes went wide as she realized the misuse of the very word she had been trying to avoid; cheeks burning bright red and she fumbled over her words in an effort to cover her error up. "Coffee date. I meant coffee date. I don't date date... ever. I don't really coffee-date, either; this is an extreme exception that was made only because you've been relentless in trying to persuade me to meet you..."

Already she could see just how much of a disaster this was going to be. Why was he so persistent in trying to meet with her? Did he have a group of friends that had put him up to this that were laughing in some quiet booth, hoping to record her humiliation? She wanted to cringe just thinking about it...

That girl who's next to me,

Christian couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face as he listened to Ana speak. He couldn’t remember the last time that he smiled so easily with someone, on top of that someone he didn’t know that well. Except of course what he could research about her.

For some reason though, he found the young woman in front of him undeniably charming. Since the moment that she spoke to him online, there was just something that made him laugh, or made him smile. Even when he tried to forget about her and focus on his work as he should be, thoughts would stray to a comment she made towards him.

On top of that she was beautiful, and didn’t even know it. It was clear that she didn’t hold the same esteem that others did for her beauty. It made him both happy and frustrated by. Happy because it was refreshing from the usual woman who he spent any time around. Even those throwing themselves at him, thought their beauty was what they could use to lure him in. A very wrong mistake. But it was frustrating because he knew full well that there were people out there that would take advantage of that fact.

Some might say he would be one of those.

But Christian, as charmed as he was by her, was certain after this meeting he would stay away from her. She was far too innocent for the darkness that ruled his world. If he would have been able to stay away from her today he would have… but something about her just made it impossible. He needed to meet her in person once, needed to speak to the woman who made him smile.

He could feel his fingers twitch slightly on the table as she corrected her name to him. He was not a man who was corrected often, and many times was not a man who was corrected and then there was no repercussions. But he let his hand relax slightly, laying flat on the table and let a small smirk fall across his face as he looked at her.

”Ana then, for now at least. Though I have to confess a fondness for your full name, Anastasia. “ His eyes stared directly into hers, a challenge all in their own as he did. That’s what she liked to do after all, challenge him. Like she was now. He found it…fascinating.

He hummed slightly, taking a sip of his coffee that sat in front of him, watching her over the rim of it. He set it down carefully, straightening it out with a precision that only he could see. ” I do remember clearly you saying it was not a date…or a coffee date… I believe the exact words that you said was it was a ‘schedule’. “ the smirk returned to Christian’s face as he copied her words that was sent to him when she agreed to this meeting.

”I also do not date, or coffee-date, or meet as well. This is as well , an extreme exception I’ve made for myself. “ Christian slide the muffin that sat in front of him towards her slowly before pulling away. ” What can I get you to drink for our not date, not a coffee-date, schedule?”
