THE WEREWOLF (QUILEUTE) SPECIES WRITE-UP

Please note that the werewolves depicted below are direct descendants of the Valadik (the Original werewolves). The Quileute werewolves are descendants of Viktor Valadik. You can read more about the Valadik werewolves here.
The Quileute werewolves are one of the least common breeds that were known to frequent only a small area in the Unites States - La Push, Washington - before spacing themselves out to New Orleans in recent years. Members of the pack all have the same tattoo on their right shoulder; the tattoo features the image of two wolves to create the face of a third.
Recent studies by Trinity Olson - a supernatural doctor - have shown that Quileute werewolves have twenty-four chromosomes; one more than human beings. The exact nature of the extra chromosome is unknown, but it may carry the genes needed for the shapeshifting abilities. The hypothesis is that it is somehow passed down only in Y-chromosome carrying sperm, which would explain why almost all shapeshifters are male. Or, alternatively, it may be that it is passed regularly by both sexes (both males and females) and that testosterone may be needed as a co-inducer for the shapeshifting complex together with whatever external trigger needed for phasing.
Because of this, females are unable to shapeshift unless they have higher testosterone levels in their systems on an everyday, natural basis. That said, if a female does inherit the shapeshifting gene through her bloodline, she is unable to reproduce.
Imprinting is critical, as it is how the werewolf finds their soul mates. Once Quileute werewolves have imprinted, they will feel the need to constantly be in their soul mate's presence and to unconditionally give them whatever they want or need. Should the imprintee be an infant, the Quileute werewolf will act as an older brother; romantic feelings will not develop until she comes of age. Imprinting works on both humans and hybrids; it is Quileute law that no wolf may harm the imprintee of a fellow pack member, as this will lead to destructive in-pack fighting.
Another exclusive trait that Quileute werewolves have is the ability to communicate through telepathic means, though only with those in their pack, and only when in their werewolf forms. The Alphas of two different packs are able to communicate telepathically, and can control what thoughts they share, while the subordinates of different packs don't show this ability.
Like almost all werewolves, Quileute werewolves live in packs led by an alpha (the strongest and fastest of the pack) and a beta (the alpha's right-hand; typically the second strongest and fastest). Anyone below the alpha and the beta are considered omegas.
These werewolves are created through natural reproduction. The first change is very violent and the new werewolf will experience some memory loss. Over time, it becomes easier to phase; the first few phases will be almost complete blackouts; this is a temporary condition.
Like all canines, spring is typically their 'mating season'; males have increased sexual urges during the spring as their inner wolf longs to reproduce. Werewolf pregnancies can last anywhere from four months to nine months with the average litter anywhere from three to five pups. Keep in mind that it is very rare for werewolves to reproduce. Miscarriages often happen during full moons, as they are near-impossible to avoid.
Male werewolves can cause multiple pregnancies in their female; should a female already be pregnant with a male werewolf's offspring, a second sexual encounter can cause a second pregnancy. The offspring created during the second sexual encounter will be physically and actually younger than those created during the first. This can be dangerous, for if the female goes into labour with the first pregnancy while the second pregnancy is still not developed enough to endure labour, it can result in the offspring from the second pregnancy to be born prematurely or die during the birth.
Werewolves can age normally (at the rate of a human being), but if the number of vampires in their area by far exceeds the number of werewolves, they have been known to grow at a more rapid pace. Aging four years in a single year is not unheard of in these instances, for example.
Werewolves can reproduce with other werewolves and any human-like species (and will not inherit any other abilities) but cannot reproduce with chimeras, hellhounds, kanimas, kitsunes, nogitsunes, shapeshifters, sirens, skinwalkers, vampires or werejaguars.

ALPHA POWERS: Alpha's are able to possess abilities that are unique to their position in the pack. Beta's, too, are able to possess all of these abilities, though to a lesser extent:
• COMMANDING: The ability to make others follow your commands.
• SHIELDING: Ignoring commands from higher-ranked wolves.
COMPULSION RESISTANCE: A werewolf has the ability to resist compulsion and glamouring from a vampire.
MATING: Werewolves cannot imprint like Quileute werewolves. Instead, they find a being that they find sexually appealing and alluring and choose them as their mate. Should one member of a couple die, the other will be able to choose another mate after the grieving process. In some cases, werewolves are unable to find all of the qualities it both requires and desires in one being, so it will be able to take on two, or even three different mates. Werewolves are able to mate for life with any species.
MEMORY TRANSFERENCE: By inserting their claws into the back of another being's neck, a werewolf is able to transfer memories between each other, though this can be quite painful for the being on the receiving end.
PAIN TRANSFERENCE: Werewolves have the ability to transfer pain from one being to themselves in order to lessen their pack mate's suffering or to assist it in battle.
SPEED / STRENGTH: Werewolves have enhanced strength and speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, durability, rapid healing, and heightened senses. It is known that they are fast and strong while in their human form though are stronger while in their wolf form. They heal themselves at a very advanced rate except while in human form. They can hear and smell with crystal clarity at such a heightened state that even the newest werewolf is able to smell fear, lust, and even the small subconscious olfactory scents associated with lying.
SIRE POWERS: A werewolf also possesses abilities over any werewolf that he or she creates (sires). These abilities include and are limited to:
• CALLING:Wolves the ability to call their progeny; this will mean that the wolf is forced to return to their maker even if they do not want to. During a calling, the maker has to say the name of their progeny, the progeny will feel a shiver and, if the maker chooses to, become aware of where their maker is.
• COMMANDS: A maker of a werewolf (or an alpha of a pack) can make their progeny do anything they want to, and this is enforced by saying "as your alpha/sire, I command you to...". However, this ability has no effect if the progeny has been released. This ability is also known as a 'sire bond'.
• RELEASING: The sire or the alpha has the ability to release the werewolf that they created from their power simply by stating so.
UNIQUE ABILITIES: Werewolves rarely possess unique abilities but every once in a while a werewolf is able to possess an ability that makes it more unique than others. Keep in mind, it is impossible for any werewolf to possess more than one of the following abilities:
• CREATING MIST: The ability to create a thick fog to hide scents.
• FULL SHIELD: Creating a “blind-spot” in a being's ability to sense.
• LICKING: Healing supernatural beings' wounds by licking them.
• MENTAL SHIELD: Shielding yourself from other mental abilities.
• SHARING: Sharing your ability/strength by letting one drink your blood.
VENOM: Werewolves are the most dangerous enemies of vampires due to their venomous bite, which is lethal to them. Werewolves are also hardwired to kill vampires on sight in their wolf form, though they still hunt human prey whenever there are no vampires to kill.
GILBERT DEVICE: Invented by Jonathan Gilbert, the device was a weapon designed to emit a high-frequency noise that could only be heard by vampires and werewolves and, as a result, is extremely painful to their ears. The Originals, however, are immune to its effects.
LOCOWEED: Locoweed, a plant that is violet or white in colour, can be ingested by werewolves to intensify emotions. This makes a werewolf even more aggressive, especially during sexual intercourse. This can be used as a weakness if it is used to purposely irritate a werewolf.
MAGIC: Witches are able to curse and inflict supernatural aneurysms that cause the blood vessels of werewolves to explode. This is extremely painful to werewolves, but because they are able to heal quickly, this will not kill them.
MISTLETOE: One of the earliest uses of mistletoe was as a werewolf repellent and can be deadly to all animals, including werewolves. Eating a single leaf can kill a full grown werewolf. Coming in close contact, or inhaling the fumes of burning mistletoe can also be fatal.
MOUNTAIN ASH: Mountain ash can form an impenetrable barrier to keep supernatural creatures - mainly werewolves - in or out. It can also modify their behaviour - keeping them from causing trouble. It is often said that being surrounded by mountain ash feels equal to being sedated.
SILVER: The most well known of werewolf weaknesses is their extreme allergy to silver. Silver takes hours to effectively poison and kill a werewolf, but even the first contact a werewolf has with silver is painful and uncomfortable. Silver nitrate is known to be more potent on a werewolf.
WOLFSBANE: Various methods have existed for removing the werewolf form. The most common is by ingesting wolfsbane (monkshood); a type of flower. It will kill off the lycanthropic cells and can be extremely painful. This is very rare to occur since wolfsbane can also be poisonous to werewolves. Should the werewolf cells not die before a reaction to the werewolf poison sets in, the werewolf will die. When placed on the skin, wolfsbane will burn the flesh and when injected (when mixed with water), will weaken a werewolf physically.
