There was a certain disconnect that Caroline felt now that she was settled in one place with familiar faces from Mystic Falls; she loved her friends, she really, truly did... but having been apart for four years, there were a lot of pieces of each others' lives that they had missed out in in Caroline's absence. Things she had thought and felt had been unable to be communicated over Skype or text conversations, and things they had gone through, in turn, they hadn't wanted to bother the grieving blonde with.

No one was at fault; everyone had done exactly as they needed to in order to survive the events that had unfolded so quickly those few years ago. Nobody could have predicted that Klaus would come for Tyler' nobody could have predicted that Caroline would lose the only parent she had left shortly after Tyler skipped town.

Was it foolish to have thought that she'd still fit back into their complex jigsaw puzzle as she once had? That there would still be a need for the sarcastic, quick-witted blonde vampire that had been both a pain and an asset to her friends over the years? Sometimes she thought she was asking too much from her friends and expecting too much of the universe to allow that to happen as seemingly effortlessly as it was. Something was bound to go wrong, wasn't it?

Chewing on her bottom lip as her nerves got the best of her, Caroline was oblivious to the fact that she had been standing on campus gawking at the massive university building before her. She had missed January's enrolment by a couple of months so she wouldn't be able to attend classes along some of her familiar friends until September, but she also knew it was a process that would take her about that long to complete, so why not start sooner rather than later?
THANKS ELLIE
